Happiness is Delano: Canceled

For the first time in 43 years, Chapter 26 had to cancel the Happiness is Delano contest. Changes at the governing FSDO led to major delays and requests the chapter could not comply with in time to host a contest.

Happiness is Delano was likely one of the longest-running contests in the country and many great pilots competed in its summer heat over the years. For others, it was their first aerobatic contest experience in what was then called the Basic category. Chapter President Tim Just recalls standing on the wrong side of the fence in the 80s, watching the activities and being asked if he wanted to volunteer as a boundary judge.

And the stories of hanging out on the judges line at midnight after the banquet, or even riding the beacon (!), will live on as fond memories.
